As you know, Reese and I are extremely close. It isn’t just because she’s an only child (though I’m sure that’s part of it). It is because we put sincere effort into activities that help us to strengthen our bond with each other. That means we spend our time together doing more than sitting in the same room and staring at screens all day. Mother Daughter Dates
One of my favorite bonding activities is our mommy-daughter dates. Several times per month, we have a day where Reese gets to plan the whole thing out: she picks the activities, the food, and the movie if we’re going to see one. We spend the whole day away from our electronics and the distractions of the world and just enjoy each other’s company. I get to hear about whatever new ideas she has on her mind, and I get to share my thoughts with her. It is important that our children see our relationship as a two-way street, so not only does she know that I care about her thoughts and plans, she knows that I trust her with mine too.
Sometimes allowing a 10-year-old to pick a meal can get expensive. Remember, this is a child who knows how to cook herself and has been all over the world! This month, she picked Chili’s® Grill & Bar, which I loved because we got to take advantage of their 3 for $10 menu offer. Plus, Chili’s offers bold and fresh flavors at an affordable price. Way to give mom some good food for great value, Reese! Mother Daughter Dates
Now I know you’re wondering what we ate, don’t worry I brought the deets: For her appetizer, Reese ordered chips and salsa (they were SUPER fresh and flavorful) and her drink was the mango ice tea. She ordered the Crispy Chicken Crispers that came with the best corn ever, and she totally wouldn’t let me have a bite – I know I’m raising an independent woman, but come on! Mother Daughter Dates
You know how the saying goes: if mama ain’t happy, ain’t NOBODY happy. Don’t worry, mama was actually really pleased with my meal. For my appetizer, I chose the baked potato soup and it was creamy and cheesy, and bacon-y and just like a loaded baked potato, but in soup form. I also got the mango tea, which was really tasty. You know I’m a lover of anything with bacon, so I ordered the Just Bacon Burger, which came with fries. The fries were crisp, so was the bacon, and my burger was juicy. What else could a girl want? The portions were HUGE which means we had leftovers for late-night munching. Remember that movie I talked about earlier? Ready-made snacks, folks. That’s the only way to do it. We get to snuggle up, Reese gets to pick (though she’s VERY open to my input, which I appreciate), and we just lay back and rest from our day and enjoy each other’s company. I love this kid! That’s how we do mommy-daughter date night. Fortunately, now that we know about the great deal we can get at Chili’s® Grill & Bar we can do date night more often! Chili’s 3 for $10 means Reese and I can both feast for just $10 each. Reese and I enjoyed every minute of the time we spent eating there. Especially the bacon! Mother Daughter Dates
