Not going to lie, this years spring season was incredibly busy for Reese and I. With all the traveling and family time, I still wanted the opportunity to introduce new habits for Reese to take over in the mix of all the craziness that this season brings. Including reading a chapter of a book each night as a family, or reading a chapter and acting out how the chapter went down. Kind of like a game of charades! I feel like that would keep her engaged in reading every night.
This months book haul for us is Focused, The Baby-Sitters Club #1: Kristy’s Great Idea and The Light in Hidden Places. Believe it or not Reese read all of these books over her winter break from school and I was pretty impressed with her. When she read her chapter a night with the family and I, it was so exciting to see her all expressive in her tone of voice. She read those books like she wrote them herself! I love seeing her imagination run wild and let me tell you.. It’s RUNNING!
Sometimes when she’s reading she does get a little sleepy. That’s why I decided to make her reading into a game of charades. Now every time she finishes a chapter, she will then need to act out how that chapter went and vice versa. So that we can see who was really paying attention to that chapter.
I can’t wait for her to read more and more books to me because it makes me so happy to see her doing what she loves to do. I also get to spend some great quality time with her. What kind of game would you play with your child after they read their book of choice?
