Traveling with kids and worried about how you’ll keep them from driving you nuts in the hotel? Here are 6 Helpful Ways To Entertain Kids In A Hotel.
Reese and I travel quite a lot, and at first, hotels seemed like a ball of fun for my daughter, but these days, she’s so used to them that she gets bored fast. And you know there’s nothing worse than hearing your kiddies mutter the words, “I’m bored mom, what can I do?”
Sadly, we can’t go to the hotel pool if it’s raining, so I have to find creative ways to entertain kids in a hotel. After all, she’s only 8, and like most kids, she’s got tons of energy that she needs to burn off. If you happen to travel often with your little ones, then you know how important it is to keep them busy. So, I’ve come up with a ton of creative ways to entertain kids in a hotel with a little imagination. Now don’t get me wrong. I want to instill my love for traveling on my daughter, but I also want to make sure that she enjoys every bit of her trip, and this is how I do it. I hope these suggestions help you as much as they helped Reese and I. And believe me. Everywhere we go is a party now!
Dry Erase Markers on Windows & Mirrors
I bought a bunch of dry erase markers at a local arts and crafts store and brought them with me on my last trip. What’s great about these is that your kids can turn a dull window or bathroom mirror into a canvas that allows their imagination to explode. They’ll be easily entertained decorating the windows for at least an hour or two. Best of all, you can wash the markers when you’re ready to go!
Pack Board Games
Board games are great ways to entertain kids in a hotel. You can bring some of your favorites like Monopoly, which provides hours of entertainment, or UNO, which is so addictive, Reese and I simply can’t travel without it. You can probably find travel versions of these popular games if you’re strapped for space. If you’re left wondering which games would be the best ones to play with the kiddies, then check out my post, “6 Board Games Your Tween Will Love“. We seriously vouch for all 6 of them. Can’t travel without them!
Bring An Educational Toy
Educational toys keep your kids entertained and their tiny brain cells active. A few of our favorite and must pack educational toys are our Virtual Realty System and our Osmo. Osmo is an amazing way for your child to interact with their iPad and iPhone without them being on Youtube or playing video games. Once you place the red reflector over the camera, it allows the technology to see what’s in front of it. Now your child can solve puzzles, make music, and explore an artificial environment using their hands to interact.
We love our VR because it places kids directly in the actions. Reese has taken a virtual tour of the White House while in Washing D.C. as well as a tour of the international space station. They have so many fun things for kids to do over VR. This was an excellent investment for us. Reese loves that she can travel virtually right from our sofa. Bored? What’s that, mommy?
Pack Glow Sticks For Baths
If the hotel pool is closed, no problem! Just throw some glow sticks into the bathtub and your kids will have fun splashing around. As a parent, I’ve learned that the best ways to entertain kids in a hotel are to let them play with water. But I always keep a close eye on them too, so make sure you bring a book to read while staying close to them.
Amazon Fire TV Stick
The Amazon Fire TV Stick gives me and my kids access to tons of movies and TV shows from Netflix and other streaming services. This means you can watch some of your children’s favorite shows like Netflix’s “Bunk’d”. Now, who’s ready to turn the hotel room into a mini cinema?
Create A Kiddie Spa
Use hotel soaps to create a spa experience for you and your kids. I brought a nail kit with me last time so my daughter could have loads of fun with cool gel nail enamel colors. You can also try nail stamping, which allows them to some fun and colorful designs by simply pressing on your nails with the help of a nail stamping tool.
