Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Although I’ve taken Reese to Disneyland more times than I can count (Yay for annual passes!), Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is an event we wouldn’t miss for the world! More than just your average trip to a theme park, this event has so many special activities both parents and kids can appreciate. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Children love to dress up and trick-or-treat inside the Happiest Place on Earth, while adults love knowing this really is the best family-friendly Halloween party in town! No need to worry about ending up with a bag full of crappy candy or regretting taking your kids through a too-terrifying, community-sponsored, haunted house. The photos you’ll get of your family alongside your favorite Disney characters, decked out in Halloween costumes, is worth the visit alone! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Seeing Reese's face light up at Disney has brought me plenty of joy, but leave it to the most magical place to make sure that we parents have fun in our own right. For starters, the thrill ride we all know and love (Space Mountain, of course) gets a makeover this time of year and becomes Ghost Galaxy, where guests encounter paranormal characters as they race through the darkness!

And if you have a slightly twisted sense of humor like me, you’ll appreciate the Cadaver Dans, a zombie-fied barbershop quartet that entertains guests throughout the park. (If you pay attention, you’ll see lots of stuff that goes right over kids’ heads!) At parade time, it’s the Headless Horseman that leads the charge down Main Street, U.S.A., reminding me of the cartoon I loved to watch as a kid this time of year. The night culminates with Halloween Screams, a supernatural fireworks celebration designed exclusively for the party. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

This year, Reese and I are going as Moana and a pirate. (Not exactly a matching pair, but I say be what you want to be!) You certainly don’t have to dress up for the Halloween party, but if you do, keep a few rules in mind: Keep it family-friendly and free of anything that could remotely be construed as a weapon. Skip masks altogether, and make sure your costumes are not dragging on the ground.

If you eat, breathe and dream Disney like we do, top off the evening with a stay at a Disney Resort Hotel even if you live nearby and here’s why: First of all, you’ll want to stay late and enjoy yourself. The party ends at 11:00 p.m. and by the time you get on the road, everyone’s going to be exhausted (Trust me!). Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Secondly, the In-Room Celebrations are awesome! Seriously, the party doesn’t have to end after you leave the theme park. Imagine walking into your hotel room to discover a spooky door banner hinting at the special surprises that wait inside. As you step inside, tons of personalized goodies make you feel like Mickey has been there. Your kids will flip! How memorable is that?

The Spooktacular Disney Halloween celebration in particular sets the tone for fun, with a light-up Mickey pumpkin sash over the door of your room, a welcome letter from your favorite character, a large Mickey Mouse plush and a one-of-a-kind keepsake character bin holding Halloween treats. You’ll also get a Halloween-themed blanket, creepy candelabra, luminaries, cobwebs, hidden messages, activities and more to entertain the family while inside the room! You children will have these souvenirs and memories forever. Personally, I would rather give my Reese experiences of a lifetime than 1,000 toys, and everything about Mickey’s Halloween Party fits the bill. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
